Aciera F4
The Aciera F4 universal milling machine
is one of the rarer machines from this stable. While F1s and
F3s were sold in quite large numbers from the 1950s to the 1990s,
the F4 is much less frequently encountered. It is a much more
sophisticated and substantial machine than the F3 with sliding
quill vertical head, infinitely variable spindle speeds and infinitely
variable powered feeds with rapids to y and z axes. Weighing
in at just under a tonne, the F4 is a very robust machine with
accessories to match, the vertical head alone weighs some 60kg
while the plain table requires two people to fit it to the machine.
These machines were very expensive being just under three times
the price of the F3.
I have an F4 in my own workshop - it is
a joy to use.
